Phalaenopsis

Commonly recommended for most beginer. It come in many different sizes and colours, flower and plant size vary depending on the parentage. Also called as moth orchid.

They make excellent house plants or indoor plants, but it need certain temperature at night. This type of orchids are the easiest and most rewarding for home grower as they produce arching spike or more flowers as often as three times a year, and the great thing is, it can flower for months.

Growing Phalaenopsis Orchid

Warm Growing Type

15 - 28 C

Light Requirements

Shade loving, like good like but not direct sun where they will scorch. Too much bright light can burn the leaves and turn the plants yellowish while too little, the leaves will soft.

Watering Requirements

Like plenty of water but not sitting in damp situations. Water once every week. Do not over watering, it will kill the plant.

Feeding Requirements

Feed every two weeks .

Potting

Clear pots are ideal for phalaenopsis, while we can see the root problem. Coarse bark mixture with charcoal, perlite and sphagnum moss. Re-pot after flowering.

Cultural Tips

After blooms fade, you may allow the spike to dry naturally and break it off at the base. I got one tips from orchids hobbyists...DO NOT CUT THE SPIKE...and others say it can be cut...but it take longer to re bloom.
